Are there any good wineries in southern California?

Question by Dances With Mops: Are there any good wineries in southern California?
Or are they all up north of San Francisco?

Also, are there microbreweries and brewpubs out there?

San Antonio Winery is actually in Los Angeles, and is the only one left. You have excellent wineries in the Temecula area of Riverside County, or in the Santa Ynez Valley just north of Santa Barbara.

You have lots of microbreweries in LA and Orange County. You can just google it.

We’ve got a few vineyards in Malibu that you can visit. Rosenthal, Malibu Family Wines (fun drive to get to) and Malibu Vineyards. There are some others, but I don’t know much about them. They are boutique labels with a small production. Some can be good. If you want to visit one when you’re out here I recommend Malibu Family Wines since Mullholland Highway is twisty and curvy and fun to drive on if you like roads that drop off into a canyon on one side.

There are microbreweries and brewpubs out here. Skip Rock Bottom Brewery and BJ’s Restaurant & Brewery since they’re nationwide chains. Also skip Belmont Brewing in LBC it’s just not that good. In Seal Beach on Main Street is a really awesome BBQ spot called Beachwood BBQ and they specialize in microbrews. They always have 10 micros on tap and the ribs are delicious. Beer Advocate even voted them 1 of the top 10 beer bars in the USA.
In Los Angeles try Eagle Rock Brewery and in Pasadena Craftsman Brewing Company. I haven’t been to either one, but they get good reviews.
There is also a Los Angeles beer festival and an LA beer week.

I know more about the microbreweries and brewpubs in San Diego County since both my brothers used to live there and that’s where we would go when I went to visit them.
Escondido, close to San Diego, has a really good place you’ve probably heard of. Stone Brewing Company and they make Arrogant Bastard Ale. Good stuff! The Lost Abbey Brewery and Karl Strauss Brewing Company (local California chain) are both worth checking out. For good pizza and beer brewed on site go to Pizza Port Brewing Company.
