Q&A: What is a good major if you want to go into brewing beer as brewmaster?

Question by : What is a good major if you want to go into brewing beer as brewmaster?
I was reading that there are some schools that actually offer brewing programs. But I’m looking not other majors as well. I heard Biochemistry, Biomolecular and Chemical Engineering, and food sciences are some good ones.

Your major isn’t the biggest deal- there’s no “brewing” major, so don’t sweat it- learn something in school you enjoy. But if you want to use this time to prepare for a career in brewing, make sure you take at least a minor’s worth of biology, and try to work in a lab with one of your professors. See if you can work at a local microbrew, and brew your own beer at home. Throw home-brew keggers, if that’s your thing.

I’d suggest you’d be ahead (no pun intended) to minor in Business Management while you’re majoring in biology/zymurgy.

The UC Davis wine making and beer brewing program requires a lot of chemistry, microbiology, and sciences of that nature. but if you plan on running the show, some economics and business management courses would be very useful. I wish you luck sir, because that’s my life goal at the moment too.
