Review of Rogue Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout – 22oz

Rogue Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout

Well, here I go busting my cherry in the beer rating world. I have big ambitions for what this site will become and it is with this lovely, comforting beer that I lay my mark on the InterWebs.

I picked up this 22 oz Rogue bottle at Bert’s Better Beers in Hooksett, NH. They have a nice select of beers from around the world and every bottle is priced for individual purchase and for purchase as a 4 or 6-pack. I pulled this one from their cooler, as it is a Friday night and I didn’t want to wait for it to chill too long after I got home.

Appearance: Upon pouring this beer, it had a nice, rich brown head and a dark, brown color. It was very opaque, as one would expect of a stout.

Aroma: Beautiful aroma of dark-roasted coffee and Spanish tampenade (OK, I’ll stick with black olives).

Taste: French-pressed coffee with bittersweet chocolate flavors abound in this one. There is noticeable bitterness as it crosses your palette

Mouthfeel: Nice round feeling as it flows across your mouth. It is in no way grainy, as some stouts can be.

Overall: This was a very enjoyable beer. I will definitely pick one up again and will look to brew a clone soon.
